Risk-Off Mood Persists as U.S. and Asian Markets Open in the Red

Hello traders, welcome to a new trading week, coming off a brutal stretch for multiple asset classes. Last week saw significant declines in cryptocurrencies and stock indices, with the S&P 500 suffering its worst week since September. The overall market sentiment is not particularly optimistic, though certain sectors, like European indices, managed to perform much better.

This Monday, the economic calendar is relatively empty, with no Tier 1 data scheduled for release. Market movements are being driven primarily by broader risk sentiment rather than economic reports.

Looking at the market open, Asian markets started in the red, reflecting continued cautiousness from last week. U.S. futures are also declining, while European futures opened on the green side and are trying to push higher. This follows a pattern seen over the past few weeks, where European indices have outperformed their global counterparts, continuing their strong momentum in 2025.

On the currency market, we are seeing strength in the Japanese Yen, New Zealand Dollar, Australian Dollar, and Swiss Franc, as these currencies are gaining ground early Monday before the European session. Meanwhile, European currencies and the Canadian Dollar are experiencing a slight correction.

Turning to commodities, the weakness in oil continues, with crude prices extending their downward trend. Metals, on the other hand, are starting the week on a slightly positive note, with gold and silver attempting to bounce higher.

With a quiet economic calendar today, traders will be watching for broader market movements to set the tone for the week ahead. Will the sell-off in stocks and crypto continue, or will we see a rebound? Let’s see how the markets develop in the coming sessions.
