Markets fall as trading session comes to a close

  • Nike crashes 12.89% as session draws to a close Bright Health (down 5.8%) has also underperformed today.
  • European markets are trending positively as CAC is up by 1.51%, hitting 5,762.34.

With the trading session drawing to a close, the leading indices were losing ground — Dow Jones trades at 28,733 after losing 1.69%. S&P 500 drawing back 1.51% to 3,585.45.

European markets are up as CAC added 1.51% to trade at 5,762.34. Asia-Pacific markets are dropping as Nikkei falls to 25,937 (down 1.83%).

The earnings season is coming to an end and Nike and Micron Technology have release their reports.

Markets are trading lower today despite some positive data published earlier as data for United States Initial Jobless Claims published yesterday at 12:30 UTC came out at 193,000, beating projections of 215,000 and showing improvement over the preceding figure of 209,000. Highly important GDP data from United States beat analyst expectations of -0.6 with a reading of -0.6.

Meanwhile, United States Core PCE Price Index (MoM) (Aug) released today at 12:30 UTC with a figure of 0.6, while the previous figure was 0.1.

While markets are generally down so far today, some stocks outperformed such as GBP/NZD gained 2.59% to reach 1.9953.

Nike is currently trading at $83.05 after declining 12.89%. Bright Health (down 5.8%) has also underperformed today.

Kicking off the session at 1.945, GBP/NZD currency pair peaks at 1.9965

Today's session so far looks to be heading in the same direction — GBP/NZD rallies 503 pips (2.59%) deep into the session, trading at 1.9953.
